J. BECHER & ASSOCIATES WINS 2020 PROJECT EXCELLENCE AWARD FROM NATIONAL ELECTRICAL CONTRACTORS ASSOCIATION

Work on the ‘Dorothy Day Center’ and ‘10,000 s.f. Stunning New Smart Home’ Honored During NECA 2020 LIVE Virtual Convention

J. Becher & Associates, an electrical contractor based in Rogers, Minnesota, was recently recognized by the National Electrical Contractors Association with a NECA Project Excellence Award in the Residential Category for the Dorothy Day Center and the Low Voltage/Integrated Systems category for the 10,000 s.f. Stunning New Smart Home.

NECA established the Project Excellence Award to showcase the exceptional work that its members perform throughout the country. J. Becher & Associates will be recognized along with this year’s other winners during NECA 2020 LIVE, the association’s virtual convention and trade show.

The 10,000 s.f. Stunning New Smart Home project is just that – smart! The residents of this home rely on an ELAN system for easy control of the lighting, security, audio, video, climate and more in their 10,000 square-foot Minnesota home. From setting the pool temperature to dimming the lights in the kitchen to unlocking the front gate, the family can do everything with the touch of their finger.

When your dream home has more than 100 light switches, 12 TVs and 48 zones of audio, the only way to effectively manage it all is with a full home control system. It would be incredibly stressful to try running a home this large without modern technology or full-time help, and even communication could be difficult without an intercom system. These particular homeowners were familiar with the ELAN system from their previous home, so in the new one, our focus was maximizing simplicity and functionality without damaging the aesthetics. The Dorothy Day Place project in St. Paul was one of our larger and most rewarding projects of 2019.
Dorothy Day Place, is a new 6-story building in the heart of downtown St. Paul, intended to replace the Dorothy Day Center- an emergency shelter that provides people in need with a dignified, safe place to call home. The new multi-use 177-unit facility will provide meals, shelter, career assistance and other programs to help those struggling to get back on their feet. The facility is the largest public-private housing and social services partnership in the state’s history, and we were thrilled to be a part of the project.
